Beer Quality Scoring

If you are a CAMRA member you can make a real contribution to the pubs and clubs that are entered into CAMRA's Good Beer Guide, the UK's best-selling beer and pub guide, and to help us determine our own branch pub of the year.

Each year beginning in February branch members record the quality of the beer they consume in the branch area and beyond, and this enables us to select the pubs and clubs that we recommend for inclusion in the Good Beer Guide.

You can submit scores for pubs inside and outside the branch area by going to Whatpub.com, your username is your membership number and password your postcode in capitals without spaces.

You can download and print out a paper scoring sheet to record your scores when you are out and about and enter them electronically later.

Below is the list of scoring descriptions (you can use half points).

0 - No Real Ale available.

1 - Beer that is anything from barely drinkable to drinkable with considerable resentment.

2 - Competently kept, drinkable pint but doesn't inspire in any way, not worth moving to another pub but you drink the beer without really noticing.

3 - Good beer in good form. You may cancel plans to move to the next pub, you want to stay for another pint and may seek out the beer again.

4 - Excellent beer in excellent condition.

5 - Probably the best you are ever likely to find. A seasoned drinker will award this score very rarely.

This is a great way to help the branch, get more involved with our work in promoting Real Ale but above all to enjoy good beer and have a great time doing it.

Good Beer Guide Pub Nominations

Dudley & South Staffordshire CAMRA nominate pubs for inclusion in the Good Beer Guide by using a set of criteria:

Look for the meeting, usually in January, when this will take place.

Pub Of The Year Competion

The branch Pub Of The Year (POTY) is chosen from a shortlist of pubs that have been nominated for inclusion in the next year's Good Beer Guide.
The shortlisted pubs are scored by branch members on the following criteria:

Every pub on the shortlist must be visited by the scorer.

The scores are then collated and weighted and a branch POTY is chosen. The pub is then entered into the national CAMRA POTY Competition. The POTY entry hopefully will progress through the stages of the competition - County, Region, Super Regional and The Final.
